WHY THE STYLE, COLORS AND/OR MATERIALS?

SHINGLES – is a series of overlapping elements, usually flat and in rectangular shaped, that are installed from the button of the roof up. The roof shingles form a waterproof barrier to protect the entire structure of your property.  It allows the water to run down to the gutters or to the ground.  The color that you pick will affect directly the look of your property and it is your responsibility to become aware and understand any limitations impose by the Home Owner’s Association.  Singles can also make a difference in the energy efficiency levels, budget and lifespan of your new roof. There many different styles and materials.

# Slate Tile Shingles

Types of Shingle Materials

# Asphalt roof shingles is cover with hot asphalt on both sides and a mineral coating.

# Clay Roof tiles also called terracotta clay tiles made 100% of natural clay.

# Concrete Tiles are made of concrete and shaped similar to clay tiles.

Other elements to consider in roofing installation is the underlayment, insulation, roof penetrations, parapet walls, flashings, sheathings, and frame repairs.

Underlayment

There are 3 different types of underlayment: asphalt-saturated felt, rubberized asphalt, and non-bitumen synthetic.

Insulation

Insulating your loft, attic or flat roof is a simple and effective way to reduce heat loss and reduce your heating bills. The most common type is batts and blankets of polyester, natural wool, glass wool and rockwool.

Roof Penetrations

Vent pipe, drains, chimneys are all important elements we carefully consider as they may require additional work or special order materials.

Parapet Walls

A parapet is a barrier which is an extension of the wall at the edge of a roof, terrace, balcony, walkway or other structure.

Flashing

Usually aluminum or galvanized steel used over joints in roof and wall construction to prevent water seeping in and causing damage.

Sheathings

A wood panel or sheet material fastened to the roof rafters or trusses on which the shingle is laid.

Frame Repairs

Roof framing is one of those carpenter skills that appears quite complicated, and indeed, some roof designs are difficult. The purpose of a roof frame is to provide a structure that spans the walls of the building and supports the roof covering. In some cases, parts of the frame may need to be replaced before the new roof is installed or to make repairs.
